The WW&F: Humason Brook Trestle

Milepost 5.8

Humason Brook Trestle was the last remaining original trestle on the WW&F's right-of-way. As can be seen from some of the pictures below, the trestle still stood in 2001 but was quite fragile. The structure was replaced as a US Marine Corps reservist exercise in the summer of 2001, and track was laid over it in the fall. Regular trains began running over it late in 2002.

The structure as seen before 1999 - nature is slowly reclaiming it.

This is the view of the stringers across the brook, as they were in 1999. As can be seen, they are quite fragile.

Southern Trestle Abutment
The trestle was replaced in August 2001 by USMC Marine Wing Support Squadron 472, Detachment B (the "Pros From Detriot") with a structure closely replicating the original bridge, using timbers taken off of the standard gauge Wiscasset Trestle a few years earlier. This is the squadron that replaced it.Photo courtesy of Robert Cavanagh.
New trestle
The first train over the new bridge, the track construction train consisting of Engine #51 and flatcar #118. This was October of 2001.
